​Musical Theater is a world of entertainment that encompasses many skills and creative elements. We will discover musicals mostly from the “Golden Era” of American Musical Theater for Broadway but will also explore film musicals and more modern works as well.

We will decide which songs inspire the class and delve into the show, characters, script and scene work, vocal style and dance, and practice pieces incorporating all of those things. The musical is the most complete performance opportunity for any live performer. Musicals even incorporate skills like magic, comedy, stage combat, acrobatics and musicianship. We will learn about those things, but focus on vocalization, acting and dancing for our own performance goals. We will learn to properly produce sound (sing) while dancing, creating character, communicating and using good stagecraft. Being in a musical is one of the most exhilarating, exciting, memorable experiences a person can be lucky enough to enjoy. We will prepare our students to enjoy a life in which musical theater is a part whether merely being an informed audience member or even being a star!
