Acting is fun! Who doesn’t want to have fun? More than that though, acting improves self-esteem, communication skills, critical thinking, problem solving and reading comprehension.
As a performer, the feeling one gets when they cause an audience to laugh, cry and applaud is uniquely rewarding. In our classes, we will instruct proper stagecraft for both stage and screen. We will discuss acting “technique” and employ acting exercises and games that help breathe life into a role. The art of acting is, as Shakespeare said, to hold a mirror up to nature in the most believable way possible. We will create character from movement to voice to behavior.
In this class we will:
Analyze script for plot, theme, tone, author’s intent and action.
Understand subtext, motivation, metaphor and allegory.
Work on improvisation, cold reading and memorization. Learn blocking and how to notate it.
Use material from commercials, TV, Pulitzer Prize and Tony winning plays, Oscar winning films and original scenes for students.
Students will work monologues, two person scenes and multi person scenes.
The students will learn to respect each other’s strengths and special talents. Every performer has a unique gift, it is our goal to unlock those gifts!
