Oku was created from the love of a mother for her child in 2015. Finding that there was nothing out there was would satisfy the needs of her daughter, our Director decided that if she couldn't find it, she would create it. What started out as just a handful of young elementary students has grown to a wonderful community of learners grades K-8.
Oku is not a school. We are a learning center that offers in person, flexible educational options. We offer core academics Monday and Wednesday, Enrichment/Elective classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday and Friday is our Bonus Day. Campus hours are 9:00 - 2:00.
Our Academic classes are taught in small, multi-grade classrooms with differentiated learning by credentialed teachers. Children work with their peers at their own academic level and pace. Lessons are tailored to allow students to learn at a level that promotes growth, understanding, independence, and a love for learning.
Our program includes a combination of the traditional classroom experience and project based lessons which introduce concepts in a multi-faceted manner with practical applications. Academic curriculum is integrated with social skills lessons, freedom of movement within the classroom, and a positive behavior approach. At Oku, an emphasis is placed on teaching kindness and respect as well as academics.
Our Enrichment/Elective classes are also taught in small multi-grade class, however our instructors are experts in their trade, not credentialed teachers. For more information on our specific classes, click here.
Our classes are typically below 15 students per class.
